The Fundraising Battle Between Ted Cruz and Colin Allred
With the November election approaching, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz and Representative Colin Allred have been actively raising funds for their U.S. Senate races. As of now, they have collectively raised approximately $81.2 million, setting the stage for a competitive race.
Funds Raised by Each Candidate
During the period from January 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, Colin Allred managed to raise about $1.2 million more than Ted Cruz. Cruz’s fundraising efforts included $23.4 million from his Senate campaign, as well as significant amounts from joint fundraising committees and PACs he leads. On the other hand, the majority of Allred’s $41.2 million fundraising came from his main campaign account.
Comparison to Previous Election Cycles
In comparison to the 2018 election cycle, Ted Cruz is ahead in fundraising this time around. By June 2024, Cruz had raised $40 million, almost double the amount he raised in 2018 when adjusted for inflation. Colin Allred has also outpaced Beto O’Rourke’s fundraising efforts in 2018, having raised $41.2 million so far in the current election cycle.
However, it’s worth noting that Beto O’Rourke’s fundraising saw a significant surge in mid-2018, where he raised a record $38.1 million in just three months. O’Rourke’s total fundraising in 2018 amounted to $100.7 million.
Small-Dollar and Out-of-State Donors
It’s challenging to compare the number of small donations or out-of-state donors between Cruz and Allred due to federal laws on donor disclosure. Nevertheless, both candidates have received substantial contributions from donors who remain undisclosed, with Allred receiving $15.9 million and Cruz receiving $8.6 million in such contributions.
