Gender Parity and Mental Health at the Paris Olympics
As the world prepares for the 2024 Paris Olympics, a major milestone is approaching: gender parity among athletes. This advancement comes more than a century after women first competed in the Paris Olympics in 1900. Simone Biles, Naomi Osaka, and Michael Phelps have started an important conversation about mental health, and the Paris Olympics are showing how much has changed. Athletes now have more resources than ever before, with the USOC increasing the number of mental health providers from six to 15 and offering a 24/7 helpline and “Think Zone” in the Athletes Village.
