Houston Young Mother Faces Serious Charges After Abandoning Newborn in Dumpster
In a shocking incident last week in Houston, a young mother, Everilda Cux-Ajtzalam, 18, was arrested and charged with abandoning her newborn baby in a dumpster immediately after giving birth. The gravity of the situation is evident as she faces serious charges of abandoning a child with no intent to return, a third-degree felony.
The Disturbing Events Unfold
According to court documents, Cux-Ajtzalam gave birth behind a food truck where she worked on Dashwood Drive. After the birth, she took drastic actions by tying the baby, placenta, and umbilical cord in a garbage bag and disposing of it in a nearby dumpster. Fortunately, a passerby heard the baby’s cries and called 911, leading to the baby being rescued and taken to a hospital. The baby’s current condition remains unknown.
A Harrowing Confession and Legal Consequences
When apprehended by the authorities, Cux-Ajtzalam reportedly confessed that she had felt compelled to get rid of the baby to prevent her boyfriend from leaving her. The entire incident was captured on surveillance video, adding to the evidence against her. Due to her lack of ties to the country and being deemed a flight risk, she is being held in jail on a $90,000 bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for July 29.
These disturbing events serve as a reminder of the importance of seeking help and support in times of crisis rather than resorting to drastic and irreversible actions.
