Community Comes Together to Clean Up Marshall Middle School Campus
A campus filled with snags and tall grass is not the ideal setting for the start of a new school year, especially for the community surrounding Marshall Middle School in Houston’s Near North Side. However, the community has taken matters into their own hands to clean up ahead of the school year.
Community Initiative Sparks Action
The initiative to clean up the school campus began when members of the community joined forces and recognized the need for action. Belina Moreno, founder of the Near North Side Community Response Group, highlighted the urgent need for cleanup, expressing concern over the debris left behind by a recent hurricane.
With the support of volunteers from the community, efforts are underway to ensure that the campus is clear and welcoming for students returning to school. The goal is for students to feel pride and excitement as they enter the school on their first day back.
Strength in Community Unity
Through a collective effort, community members have come together to clean up the campus, utilizing resources such as lawnmowers, chainsaws, and refreshments. Noel Valdivino emphasized the power of community unity in addressing challenges and making a positive impact.
The sense of community pride and the desire to create a safe and welcoming environment for all residents, especially the children, is a driving force behind the cleanup efforts. By working together, the community is demonstrating their commitment to supporting one another and improving the overall well-being of the neighborhood.
Looking Towards a Bright Future
As the cleanup efforts continue, the community is hopeful that the results will go beyond just a clean campus. They aim to instill a sense of pride and belonging in the residents, particularly the students, as they return to school.
Ultimately, the community’s dedication to improving the environment and quality of life for all members reflects their strong sense of unity and commitment to creating a better future for Marshall Middle School and the surrounding area.
