Security forces at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland engage in active shooter incident

Officials at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland were involved in a tense situation early Saturday morning, as security forces were forced to return fire on an “active shooter” attempting to gain access to the outer gate of the JBSA-Chapman training annex.

According to a news release from JBSA, security officers exchanged gunfire with the individual around 4:30 a.m. The incident was described as an off-base shooting, with no immediate threat to military installations.

Uncertainty surrounds the active shooter incident

Officials did not provide details on whether there were any injuries in the shootout, nor did they confirm the number of gunmen involved. It remains unclear whether the individual had any ties to the military.

Local law enforcement responded to the scene outside the military installation and is currently investigating the shooting. However, no further information has been released at this time.

Return to normal operations at the training annex

In response to the incident, the gates to the training annex were initially closed, and traffic was redirected to an alternate entry point. By 10 a.m. on Saturday, the annex door had reopened, and normal operations had resumed.

The safety and security of the personnel at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland remain a top priority as authorities continue to investigate the active shooter incident.
