Elderly Houston Man Desperate for Power Restoration After Cyclone Beryl
An almost 90-year-old man in Houston is facing a desperate situation after being left without power following Cyclone Beryl. The local community, including the Plaza Almeida area, is still struggling to recover, with fears for health and safety growing.
Life Without Power: A Heart-wrenching Reality
Julius Gordon, Jr., an 86-year-old resident of Plaza Almeida, shared his harrowing experience of living without power. With no electricity for more than a week, Gordon faced extreme temperatures and darkness, relying on a battery-operated cooler to store perishables.
Despite being a cancer survivor battling heart disease, Gordon refused to leave his home, causing worry for his daughter, Denise Furrow, who struggled to keep him cool and safe.
Lack of Communication and Safety Concerns
Adding to the distress, the lack of communication from CenterPoint, the utility company responsible for power restoration, left Gordon’s family feeling frustrated and isolated. Despite his address being marked as “energized,” there was no progress in restoring power.
Gordon’s daughter expressed concerns about safety in their neighborhood, highlighting the risks of living without power in a high-crime area. The need for urgent action and clear communication from authorities is crucial to ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable residents.
