FDA Warns of Illnesses Linked to Diamond Shruumz Foods
Federal safety officials have issued a warning regarding illnesses linked to the consumption of recalled Diamond Shruumz foods. The latest update from federal regulators reveals that 113 people in 28 states have fallen ill after consuming the recalled products. Out of those affected, 42 have been hospitalized and two deaths are likely linked to the contaminated products.
The recalled Diamond Shruumz products were distributed online and nationwide, reaching all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The FDA has updated a list of approximately 2,000 stores and locations where the recalled items were sold. However, the agency cautions that the list may be longer, and potentially toxic products may still be available in other stores.
Recall of Diamond Shruumz Products
The Santa Ana, Calif.-based company, Prophet Premium Blends, issued a recall on all Diamond Shruumz brand cones, bars, and gummies in late June. The recall was prompted by excessive levels of muscimol found in the Amanita mushroom present in the products. Additionally, FDA testing revealed the presence of undeclared substances, such as psilacetin, also known as "synthetic mushrooms."
Symptoms and FDA Recommendations
Those who consumed the contaminated products reported severe symptoms, including confusion, seizures, loss of consciousness, abnormal heartbeats, nausea, and vomiting. In light of these developments, the FDA has issued the following recommendations:
- Avoid consumption: Do not purchase or consume any Diamond Shruumz brand chocolate bars, cones, or gummies.
- Check your home: Inspect your home for any recalled products and either discard or return them.
- Talk to your children: Parents should discuss the FDA’s recommendations with their children, as the products may appeal to young consumers.
- Seek medical help: Individuals who experience illness after consuming these products should contact their healthcare provider or call the Poison Helpline at 1-800-222-1222.
With the number of illnesses continuing to rise, it is crucial to heed the FDA’s warnings and take necessary precautions to prevent further harm from the recalled Diamond Shruumz products.
