Downtown Dallas Church Engulfed in Flames
On a Friday night, black smoke could be seen billowing from the downtown Dallas skyline as a fire ravaged the historic First Baptist Church. Dallas Fire Rescue responded swiftly to the fourth fire at the church, located at 1707 San Jacinto Street, just after 6 p.m. Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke and immediately began tackling the blaze, with videos and photos circulating on social media showing multiple fire trucks at the scene.
Spire Collapses as Crews Battle the Flames
DFR confirmed that the fire occurred inside the church’s historic sanctuary, causing part of the building to collapse. The structure affected was a sub-church, and Chopper 8 captured the dramatic moment when the spire collapsed during the firefighters’ efforts to extinguish the fire. Reports indicate that the fire was visible from as far away as Irving, highlighting the magnitude of the blaze.
Uncertainty Surrounds Occupancy, No Injuries Reported
As the fire raged on, it was unclear if anyone was inside the church at the time. However, thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far. The Rev. Robert Jeffries, who had previously hosted President Donald Trump at the church, was present during the incident.
This developing story will be closely monitored by WFAA, and updates will be provided as soon as they become available. The community is left to grapple with the aftermath of this devastating event, as the historic First Baptist Church of Dallas faces significant damage from the fire.
