Former West University Developer Indicted on Federal Charges
Former West University housing developer Brett Detamore has been indicted on federal charges of wire fraud for allegedly faking a disappearance in June 2023. According to federal court records obtained by KPRC 2 News, Detamore faces serious allegations of misusing funds and defrauding investors.
Background of the Case
Detamore, the owner of Detamore Development LLC, is accused of fraudulently obtaining over $1.5 million for his personal use by misusing funds intended for the construction of a private residence. The charges against him carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $250,000.
The Allegations and Investigations
After Detamore was reported missing in June 2023, he was found safe at a San Antonio bus stop days later. However, investigations revealed that his disappearance may have been staged as part of a larger fraud scheme. Several lawsuits have been filed against Detamore and his development company, alleging that he defrauded investors and homebuyers to finance a lavish lifestyle.
According to federal charging documents, Detamore’s fraudulent activities spanned from October 2022 to June 2023. He is accused of submitting false invoices to banks for construction projects that were never completed, diverting the funds for personal use.
In one instance, Detamore allegedly submitted a fraudulent invoice for a construction project that never took place, leaving the victim to cover additional costs. The intricate web of deceit created by Detamore has led to a federal indictment and impending legal proceedings.
As the case unfolds, Detamore’s attorney, Tate Williams, has declined to comment on the matter. The community awaits further developments in this complex and troubling case.
