Houston Weather Update

Friday Forecast:

In Houston, hot temperatures, light winds, and plenty of sunshine are expected on Friday. The afternoon may see the formation of ozone, with temperatures reaching the mid-90s and a heat index of 108 to 110 degrees. While there’s no official heat warning, it’s advisable to exercise caution in the hot sun. Similar conditions are expected for Saturday, but Sunday could bring afternoon showers.

Why Do We Want Heat?

The high pressure system in place is responsible for the hot weather in Houston. As temperatures soar into the triple digits, a heat dome traps warm air over the region, increasing heat and humidity. This pattern also limits rainfall and ensures full sunshine. Heat warnings are already active in areas to the north and east, indicating extreme heat conditions.

Tracking the Tropics:

There’s a 70% chance of a tropical wave forming in the Caribbean over the next seven days. The storm, currently developing in the Dominican Republic, is expected to move west-northwest and potentially become a tropical storm named Debbie. This system could impact Florida in the coming days, leading to heavy rainfall along the coasts of Florida, southeastern Georgia, and South Carolina.

10-Day Forecast:

As August progresses, Houston can expect hot and dry conditions. While there’s a slight chance of rain on Sunday and Monday, high temperatures and humidity will prevail for the next 10 days. This weather pattern is typical for a Houston summer, with limited rainfall potential.

Overall, Houston is bracing for a hot and dry period with occasional showers. Stay tuned for further updates on the weather in the region.
