The Hurricane Beryl Recovery Fund: Local Leaders Join Forces to Help Those in Need
The Sarofim Foundation, HEB, and CenterPoint Energy Foundation each donated $1 million to support the Hurricane Beryl Recovery Fund, demonstrating a strong commitment to helping the community in its time of need.
The Launch of the Fund
On Monday, local leaders in Harris County, Texas came together to announce the establishment of the Hurricane Beryl Recovery Fund. Houston Mayor John Whitmire and Harris County Judge Lena Hidalgo led the press conference at the United Way of Greater Houston, emphasizing the importance of providing assistance to those affected by the hurricane.
Assistance for Those in Need
The fund aims to provide emergency financial aid, home repairs, and other resources to low- and moderate-income families in the City of Houston, Harris County, Fort Bend County, Montgomery County, and Waller County. This collaborative effort recognizes the need for a unified response from various sectors to support the most vulnerable members of the community.
A Call for Support
According to Judge Hidalgo, more than 6,800 individuals in Harris County have reported damage to their homes, with many facing severe destruction. The aftermath of Hurricane Beryl has left over 140 homes completely destroyed, leaving families in a state of crisis. The damage persists, and the need for ongoing assistance is crucial to help residents recover and rebuild their lives.
The Greater Houston Disaster Alliance, established over a year ago, continues to work with local leaders to maximize the impact of the fund and ensure that donations reach those in urgent need of help.
