Chuck Norris Colleague Arrested for Sexual Assault of Student
A longtime colleague of Chuck Norris and a key figure in the KICKSTART KIDS program has been arrested on serious charges involving a Fort Bend Independent School District student. Dona Pettway, who was contracted to teach karate to children in the district, including at Quail Valley Middle School, is facing allegations of sexual assault of a child and possession of child pornography.
Investigation and Charges
In July, KPRC 2 Investigates uncovered the investigation into Pettway by the Fort Bend ISD Police Department. Following the issuance of a warrant for his arrest on charges of sexual assault of a child and possession of child pornography, Pettway was relieved of his duties at KICKSTART KIDS. The district terminated his contract as the investigation unfolded, and parents of the children he taught were left unsure if they were notified of his termination.
District Response and Statement
Fort Bend ISD spokesperson Sherry Williams issued a statement regarding the incident, urging anyone with concerns or information about inappropriate behavior to contact the FBISD Police or Crime Stoppers. The district emphasized that Pettway will not return to any FBISD campus pending the outcome of the investigation.
While the allegations are being investigated, the charges of child sexual assault and possession of child pornography each carry a $250,000 bond. The situation has caused shock and dismay among parents, students, and colleagues of Pettway, who was once a respected figure in the community.
Impact on KICKSTART KIDS Program
The arrest of Pettway has cast a shadow over the KICKSTART KIDS program, which aims to empower youth through martial arts training. Chief Operating Officer John Kurek’s email to employees regarding Pettway’s dismissal highlighted the importance of maintaining professionalism and refraining from commenting on the situation to the media.
As the investigation continues and the legal process unfolds, the Fort Bend community remains vigilant in ensuring the safety and well-being of its students. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding children and holding individuals accountable for their actions, regardless of their status or reputation in the community.
