Treatment Center Waitlist Causes Safety Concerns for Kingwood Family
In Kingwood, a family is facing a difficult situation as they wait for a treatment center to help their son, who suffers from intellectual and developmental disabilities.
A Desperate Situation
Eileen Simonetty’s home in Kingwood has boarded-up windows, reflecting the fear and concern she feels for her family’s safety. Her 33-year-old son, Christopher, has severe autism, epilepsy, diabetes, and anxiety. His violent behavior has escalated over the years, causing harm to himself and others.
Last year, during a dressing change, Christopher’s behavior turned aggressive, resulting in injuries to his family members. The situation became so severe that the police had to intervene to ensure everyone’s safety.
Long Wait for Help
Despite efforts to get Christopher into a treatment center, the family faced disappointment when they learned he had been placed on a waiting list for the Richmond State Supported Living Center. This facility is equipped to handle Christopher’s special needs, but the wait time could be up to 18 months.
While the family has been in contact with the Harris Center for support, delays in Christopher’s admission have left them frustrated and anxious. They are struggling to manage Christopher’s violent outbursts while they wait for a solution.
Seeking Answers
The family has reached out to various agencies for assistance, but the lack of immediate solutions has left them feeling hopeless. They are concerned about Christopher’s well-being and the safety of those around him.
As they continue to navigate the challenges of caring for a loved one with complex needs, they are hopeful that a resolution will come soon.
