Missing West College Man Found in San Antonio Faces Federal Charges
Multiple agencies collaborated in the extensive search for Brett Detamore, a West College man who went missing last June. His wife reported him missing, and his burned truck was discovered in Bear Creek Park. After nearly a week, Detamore was found in a “dazed” state at a bus stop in San Antonio by Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen and his team. The 39-year-old man was taken to a hospital in Houston for evaluation and treatment.
Facing Charges of Wire Fraud
Detamore now faces federal charges of wire fraud, as announced by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. The charges stem from allegations that Detamore fraudulently obtained over $1.5 million for personal use by misusing funds intended for constructing private residences. He allegedly submitted false invoices to banks holding construction loans for homes he was contracted to build. If convicted, Detamore could face up to 20 years in federal prison, a fine of $250,000, and full restitution to the victims. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 12.
Background on Detamore’s Disappearance
The West American Police Department revealed that surveillance cameras captured Detamore’s truck leaving his neighborhood early in the morning on June 21, 2023. His wife reported him missing hours later, and his burned truck was found in Bear Creek Park, about 20 miles away. Authorities confirmed that the truck was intentionally set on fire, and witnesses reported seeing a man walking away from the scene. The investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies and volunteer search teams.
Chief Ken Walker of the WUPD expressed gratitude for the efforts put forth in searching for Detamore, acknowledging the costs incurred during the operation. Despite the challenges faced during the search, the commitment to locating Detamore remained unwavering. Texas Equsearch founder Tim Miller emphasized the importance of pursuing such cases diligently, given the unpredictable outcomes they may yield.
Overall, the case of Brett Detamore highlights the complex nature of missing person investigations and the collaborative efforts required to bring closure to such situations.
