Tribute to Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee
Residents of Houston’s 3rd District came together to honor the life and legacy of the late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. The tribute, held at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, provided an opportunity for community members to pay their respects and celebrate the impact Jackson Lee had on their lives.
A Community in Mourning
Hundreds of individuals gathered at the church to express their grief over the passing of Congresswoman Jackson Lee. Wilbert Taylor, a member of the community, highlighted the significant contributions she made to the congressional district and the city of Houston. As a dedicated public servant, Jackson Lee served the 18th Congressional District for nearly three decades, leaving an indelible mark on the community.
Camila Flores, who had the privilege of working as an intern for Jackson Lee, shared insights into the congresswoman’s tireless work ethic. Despite battling pancreatic cancer, Jackson Lee continued to prioritize her constituents and community, inspiring those around her with her dedication to service.
Honoring a Legacy of Service
Throughout the tribute, various groups came together to pay their respects to Congresswoman Jackson Lee. Members of the Jackson Lee Fraternity, dressed in white attire, gathered to bid farewell to their sister and carry on her legacy of service. Shawn Simmons, Alpha Kappa Alpha Regional Director, spoke about the ongoing impact of Jackson Lee’s contributions to the community.
The celebration of Congresswoman Jackson Lee’s life will continue with a special event at Fallbrook Church, where Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to deliver a eulogy. This gathering will be an opportunity for community members to come together once again and honor the remarkable life of a dedicated public servant.
