Warning Against the Use of Unsafe Infant Loungers and Bassinet Swings
Federal safety regulators have issued a stark warning to parents and caregivers, urging them to immediately cease the use of several brands of infant loungers and bassinet swings following multiple infant deaths. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has specifically highlighted Mamibaby, Yoocaa, DHZJM, Cozy Nation, and Hyhuudth infant loungers as well as DNYSYSJ and OUKANING bassinet swings as products posing a serious safety risk to infants.
Tragic Infant Deaths Linked to Unsafe Products
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has reported a total of six infant deaths associated with these unsafe products. Infants as young as 10 days old and as old as 5 months have tragically lost their lives due to suffocation while using Mamibaby, Yoocaa, and DHZJM brand recliners.
Specific incidents include a 3-month-old baby who died in a Yoocaa baby lounger after becoming trapped between the bed and a bedroom wall while covered with a blanket. In another instance, a 5-month-old infant lost their life in a Mamibaby brand lounger while sharing a bed in 2021.
Product Defects and Safety Risks
All three brands of infant loungers, including Cozy Nation and Hyhuudth, have been found to violate federal safety regulations for infant sleep products. The defects include sides that are too low to safely accommodate an infant and sleeping pads that are excessively thick, posing a significant suffocation risk.
The manufacturer of these unsafe products, China’s Ningbo Shuchao Children’s Products Co., has not agreed to recall the following products, allowing them to remain on the market:
- Mamibaby brand infant lounger
- Cozy Nation brand infant lounger
- Yoocaa brand infant lounger
- DHZJM brand recliners
- Hyhuudth brand infant recliners
Additional Warning for Bassinet Swings
In addition to the infant loungers, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a warning regarding DNYSYSJ and OUKANING bassinet swings due to choking and fall hazards for infants. A tragic incident in 2021 involving a three-month-old baby on a similarly designed bassinet swing has prompted this urgent safety alert.
Parents and caregivers are strongly advised not to use the following bassinet swings:
- DNYSYSJ cradle swing
- OUKANING cradle swing
It is essential for the safety of infants that these unsafe products are no longer used and that caregivers are vigilant in ensuring the products they use meet all necessary safety standards.
